For sale section
« on: March 17, 2013, 01:46:02 PM »

I have had an idea to allow new members and guests to view but not post in the for sale section. This would help people sell their stuff but stop people from just using the site as free advertising.

What do you think?

It has been suggested before and rejected. Our site admin have good reasons for their policies regarding the terms and conditions of use of the site. Nothing has changed so nothing will be changed.

I'm afraid that idea was considered whilst discussing the site updates quite some time ago.
Even without posting access, it would still allow scammers etc the option to view the sales & arrange a deal via pm.
We discourage dealing via pm & insist all deals are posted on the actual sales thread. All details such as payment details & addresses should be kept to pm's.
If it is all done via pm it essentially becomes one members word against another whereas if the deal is conducted in the sales area it makes it easier for us to track should there be a problem.
We pride ourselves on there being very few bad deals conducted here & these rules have helped keep it that way.

Also agreed with this idea, being a new member However i suppose thinking about it long term its probably for the best to keep passers by and scammers off the sales section as no doubt they would rather move on and scam elsewhere than bother to post for a while before access !
