I love the old gun bags , got one but looking for a couple or three nice ones for Mercury and Airsporter.

The one I've got is faux fur lined with a mega heavy duty zip.

They don't make em like they once did ...

Just wanted to say Hello...

I'm recently getting back into the world of springers of old .

BSA gold star under lever

BSA Mercury MK 1

BSA Airsporter S

It's been a long long time 30 years break but I'm back and enjoying those old school springers yet again.

The cost or complexity of a rifle does not guarantee good results, so you have a very good chance of doing well with your Martini. They can still compete, due mainly to their superb barrels. The BSA's seem to love Eley Match , but I'm sure you'll have your own favourite ammunition.

The MkIII - because of its weight and heavy bull barrel - makes a superb benchrest rifle. I sold mine to buy "better" rifles, but my results weren't much - if any - better.  :03:

The S10 barrel is unique among the BSA barrels in that it has the breech seal in the barrel rather than as with the other BSA guns on the pellet probe tip. An R10 (or Ultra/Scorpion/Goldstar) barrel can have the seal groove machined in the breech end to fit an S10. It's not so easy to mod an S10 barrel to fit the other BSA's as the seal groove would have to be filled or the entire breech end chopped off and re-machined (transfer port, grub screw lands and the "chamber" area re-cut).

Hi Les...please accept my apologies for not responding sooner, it's been a manic life lately!
I intend to shoot benchrest with it & hopefully enter the Eley comps at Bisley in November, probably get a few looks from my fellow competitors with all that glass on top & scaffolding  on their stocks but who cares? It's the taking part that counts...
I will probably plink at my club as well......I presume you no longer have your BSA's? The stock on mine has been done & all the metalwork has gone away to be London Blacked so looking forward to getting it all back together, I'll post some pics when it's finished.
All the best Les!
Kindest regards,
Stuart
