Title: Hi from (low power) Wales
Post by: JonnyP on May 17, 2018, 10:46:18 AM
Hi, first post, looking for some tips and advice and possibly some shooting companions in and around Cardiff. I have an Ultra SE which has just been chronod at sub 8ft lbs, which explains why its never been that great a gun since Ive had it, tried a range of pellets and pressures but max 8, typically 7.5. Im about to return it to BSA as its under warranty, can anyone offer any advice as to what might be wrong with it? (it was purchased brand new and has only had light use) - Ive verified agains the springer which was bang on so not the chrono.

First thing to check before sending it back to BSA is the pellet probe seal, it's easy to chage yourself if it is faulty, easy to test as well, load a pellet, place a tissue paper over the breech area and fire (obviously into a safe backstop). If the tissue paper moves then there is a leak. The .22 uses a 3 mm x 1.5 mm Nitrile 70 seal, the .177 uses a 2mm x 1.5mm Nitrile 70 seal, these are widely available, buy a pack of 10, they wear and can easily be damaged by bits of pellet skirt or by nickel flakes that fall off the BSA pellet probe. It's a 5 minute fix with a pair of circlip pliers, why suffer the wait and possible bill from BSA if they decide they won't cover a pellet probe seal? It's a wearing part, much like a windscreen wiper blade on a car so may not be covered by warranty.

Thanks for the advice, I did change the pellet probe and filling probe seals as part of the fact finding exercise, but to no avail - great tip though - thank you
