BSA Majestic Featherweight - .308

Hi, Does anyone know if BSA made a factory sleeve that fitted over the muzzle break on this model. I have a sleeve, which is beautifully machined, tightens with a small Allen key and is said to be a 'factory' part. It is unmarked. Thanks.

I have the same going by your description. From what I have heard it was a factory option after complaints of excessive noise & burst eardrums (factory employees included). Bit heavy though and ruins the balance. Have yet to try mine out.

G'day from Aus, Wolfman and mickdave.
I have a copy of John Knibbs book, 'The Golden Century' before me. On page 127, describing the muzzle brake system cut into the barrels of the Featherweight range of models, he describes a sleeve to cover the muzzle brake ports when shooting. I quote -
"BSA provided a cover or shield which could be locked over the muzzle brake by means of a screw if the excessive report was troublesome, this they called the 'Range Adaptor'. When the first design of muzzle brake was being tested at the Redditch ranges, the Works Manager firing the rifle burst one of his eardrums, so great was the muzzle blast produced."
I hope that answers your question.
