Non UK resident needs advice on tuning
« on: September 04, 2016, 09:08:31 AM »

Hi all, I've recently immigrated back to South Africa and I brought over my BSA Ultra SE with me. The gunsmiths here don't know too much about them because they are not readily available and they are pricey if found. I want tune my rifle as well as get it a bit more powerful. I dont expect anybody to discuss this over an open forum, but if any body can give me some advice on where I can get a kit or just how to tune it then I can pass on the info. If anybody can help please pm me and I'll give you my email address to discuss.

Thanks
Chéyne

Thanks for the replays.

It's a .22 cal. I don't mind sacrificing shot count because I have my own full station. What energy level are you at Ultra Stu?

RANCiDTOM, I have sent him a message. Just waiting on a reply.

Around 27 fpe should be doable. You need to look at the transfer port, hammer weight and hammer spring. If shot count is not an issue and you want maximum power, then forget regulators. TP the size of barrel port (4mm), 1.5mm wire spring and then balance the dwell to the barrel length with hammer weight.

My standard ultra se .with 175 mm air tube un regged
Gives 20 shots around 22 fpe .with falcons pellets in .22
which for me is the minimum shot count im willing to accept .as its 2 full magazines .
increasing the energy just ate more air reducing the shot count massively .
personally id stick to 18 -22 fpe .range .
though recently ive put a longer 250 mm air tube on my ultra and this now gives about 30 / 33 shots at the same energy .
which is great .
